The Road Trip

The road trip from Melbourne to the Gold Coast is about 1,663km which I can cover in two days. I’d stop at Rooty Hill outside Sydney for the night. Going into Sydney to stay would just add additional miles and traffic frustration while Rooty Hill is pretty much directly on the road to the Gold Coast.

The timeline would be as follows:

7.00am - Leave Melbourne
10.30am - Arrive Wangaratta (morning tea)
1.00pm - Arrive Gundagai for lunch. Will probably take our own however Oliver’s there is excellent
1.30pm - Leave Gundagai
3.00pm - Arrive Goulburn for afternoon tea
5.30pm - Arrive Novotel Sydney West HQ at 33 Railway Street, Rooty Hill near Sydney (overnight) (834km)

7.00am - Leave Rooty Hill near Sydney
10.00am - McDonalds at Heatherbrae (morning tea)
1.00pm - Arrive Port Macquarie for lunch
1.30pm - Leave Port Macquarie
3.00pm - Arrive Grafton for afternoon tea
7.00pm - Arrive Palm Beach (831km)

At the time of writing petrol one way is about $500
Accommodation at Rooty Hill is $200

And buying incidentals on the road for items like tea and coffee etc is $50.

Tell me, are these times accurate? Have I allowed enough? What are your thoughts?

Any other suggestions on a better place to stay?
